Product Description

Both 1-hour and Storm Total precipitation products are derived from reflectivity data and improved upon by dual-pol products such as KDP (Specific Differential Phase) to infer the amount of precipitation that could be reaching the ground. It is important to remember that this is not a precise measurement, but still a useful proxy that can show potential regions of flooding. Additionally, in the case of 1-hour precipitation it is possible to detect descrete storm motion and even deviant motion which can be helpful in identifying convection that is surface-based or elevated in high, deep shear environments.
