FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

Q:

For whom is this conference intended?

A:

This conference is intended to present the latest in severe weather meteorology to undergraduate students. National conference are often too expensive for students to attend and yet the material presented here is important to everyone desiring to know more about their chosen field. Undergraduate and graduate students in meteorology as well as seasoned professional and weather enthusiasts who have a good background in meteorology will benefit from the sessions held here. The conference is geared for students at a senior-level in meteorology. Younger students are encouraged to review pre-requisite material that will be made available so that they too will appreciate the material presented.

Q:

Do I have to pay for the conference and the banquet separately?

A:

No. Your registration fee covers both the Conference and the Banquet.

Q:

What does our registration fee ($60 for students or $120 for non-students) pay for?

A:

Obviously, it pays for the speakers and materials for the workshop. Your fee also includes coffee, pop and snacks during the breaks, lunch on Friday, and your banquet on Friday night.

Q:

Is it possible to attend the banquet only?

A:

Yes. You may attend the banquet only. The cost is $40.

Q:

Can I get a refund if I do not attend?

A:

You may only receive a refund up to the registration closing date of February 28, 2001.

Q:

What happens if I register late?

A:

You should be able to get into the conference but there can be no guarantee of materials or food. Please consult with the conference sponsor at sirvatka@weather.cod.edu.

Q:

Do we register online or do we have to send in the form to you in the mail?

A:

The form on the registration page is meant for you to print out and send to us (with your payment) via "snail-mail" (the Post Office). We are not setting up an on-line registration.

Q:

Do you have rooms reserved at local hotels?

A:

We are setting up blocks of rooms for students to stay in as well as negotiating some of the rates to make it a little cheaper for you. Please check the hotels page for more information.

Q:

What should I bring to the conference?

A:

Bring your colored pencils and anything else to write down great information. You certainly won't find a lot of this stuff in any text books! It hasn't been written yet!

Q:

Will you provide the handouts, itineraries, and other materials?

A:

As long as your register by the deadline, you will receive all your materials. However, check the conference homepage for any web pages the speakers may want you to read before the conference as a pre-requisite to their talks. We will contact you if there are any significant changes.

Q:

Can we expect an opportunity to ask questions?

A:

Yes. We will have more panel discussion and Q&A which will involve the audience more. Questions will be solicited by attendees which will be answered by all the speakers during the final panel discussion.

Q:

Will there be any computers for us to check our email, do forecasting, etc.

A:

We are hopeful we can have some computers set up for you to check your email, and we are planning on having a forecast discussion in case there are any weekend chases!
