- The Hadley cell is a simple model which does not take
into account the earth's rotation and has air rising at the equator
and sinking at the poles.
- The 3-cell model has air rising at the equator and at
60° and sinking air at 30° and 90° (poles).

- The winds are deflected by the coriolis force. The coriolis
force deflects moving objects to the right in the NH and to the
left in the SH.
- Polar winds are the polar easterlies.
- Mid-latitude winds are the prevailing westerlies.
- Tropical winds are easterly, in the NH they are called the Northeast
trade winds.
- The ITCZ or inter-tropical convergence zone is
an area dominated by surface lows and thunderstorm development.
These thunderstorms called "hot towers" pump latent heat high into
the troposphere where that heat is transfered poleward.
