Trip 5 leaves July 11th
The last trip of the 2008 season will leave on July 5th. Trip 5 is normally targeted towards the Northern Plains of the US as well as the Canadian Prairies but things haven't necessarily gone the way of climatic norms this year. Trip 4 spent the bulk of the time in Texas! It has been an active year of severe so far and there is no reason to think that won't continue.

Project UNSTABLE
While the COD chase is underway, Meteorologists in Canada will be conducting a severe weather research project called "The UNderstanding Severe Thunderstorms and Alberta Boundary Layers Experiment" (UNSTABLE). Paul Sirvatka will be helping out with this project, as well. It will be great if the COD team can be a part of this exercise or at least meet up with a few Canadian severe weather junkies. For more on this proeject, go to the UNSTABLE website

2008 successes
A large tornado in Earl, AR on trip 1. Trip 2 had around 7 or so tornadoes in western Kansas. There were some down days to start both trips (trip 1 went to a Texas Rangers' game, trip 2 went to a Colorado Rockies' game) before ending with quite a few chase days. Trip 3 and 4 did not get tornadoes but quite a few supercells and many of them very photogenic!

Registration
