Careers in Meteorology
Hello everyone, Mike Zuranski here, bringing to you a few announcements regarding our club. It's been a quiet semester here for the CoD AMS, and I do apologize for that. The good news is I have some details for our next meeting. Our next speaker will be John Feldt, and he will be here on Tuesday, December 10th, at 6:00 PM. John is a retired NWS meteorologist who was the Meteorologist-in-Charge at the Des Moines, IA forecasting office, as well as Hydrologist-in-Charge at the Southeast River Forecast Center. He will be sharing his experiences in those positions, as well as what the RFC does and the role they play. This will be a great talk for students looking for career ideas in meteorology.
In other news, our 2014 wall calendars have just arrived, and this year's pictures have turned out great! If you're interested, please stop by the weather lab at BIC-3500, or get in touch with us in person or online. We are asking $15 per calendar, with the proceeds going to help fund our Storm Chasing Scholarships, and other student-related activities.
Speaking of storm chasing, the Winter Thunderstorm Lab meeting is right around the corner. Friday, December 6th at 7:00 PM will be the first storm chasing meeting of the year. Not only will you be able to meet our faculty and staff, but you'll also be able to sign up for next season's trips before registration goes public the following week. For more information on the meeting, our storm chasing program, and next year's trip dates, please visit http://weather.cod.edu/chasing/trips.html.
That's all the news that's fit to print for now, but we do have a few other plans in the works, including storm chasing apparel, additional guest speakers, and upcoming meeting ideas. When those plans are a little more established, we will be sure to get the word out. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!-Mike Zuranski, President
